from Chapter 1: Boarding the Space Vessel
Page: 4/4

The Vessel Lands
A flash of light appeared in the sky as we were all looking east. All of a sudden a huge space vessel approached from above. It was shining like stainless steel and appeared to be about 30 meters in diameter. Riveted to the spot where I stood, I gazed at the vessel without even blinking. It was shaped something like the kind of straw hat that we used to wear in summer to protect us from the sun.
It came closer and closer, then landed in an instant some 50 meters east of where we were standing. Indeed, it happened in a split second. There was a gently sloping hill about 50 meters away from the front garden of the prayer hall, and its slope became steeper as one approached it from the building. The space vessel was poised there, partially touching an incline in the farmland, maintaining perfect balance. How magnificent it was to observe that huge form landing softly without a sound. Completing its noiseless descent, it looked as if it were floating weightlessly above the ground.
As I stood there astonished, Mr. M said to me, Let’s go now.
As he started to walk in the direction of the ship I quickly followed him.
With Mr. M at the front, followed by myself and our four companions, we walked single file toward the ship. When we had gone about 30 meters, someone came out of the ship. As we kept approaching, a faint buzzing sound like that of a motor running could be heard from the vessel. Mr. M, who was walking about three meters ahead of me, seemed to be exchanging a few words with the man who had come out of the vessel. Suddenly the buzzing sound stopped.
From where I was then standing, about two meters behind Mr. M and the man from the space vessel, I could see the two of them talking together. The person talking with Mr. M was a young man with an oval-shaped face. Like the five other cosmic humans, he looked Japanese and he also communicated in our language.(3)
Taking off his cap, the young man casually nodded to us.
He had a very cheerful air about him. He was a little shorter than Mr. M and had beautiful eyes that conveyed a sense of purity and honesty. Though no words were spoken, I felt very close to him, as if he too had been a friend of mine from the past.
He was about 165 centimeters tall, taller than me but shorter than Mr. M. I was not sure whether he had just learned about my joining their flight or if he had known about it beforehand. He turned toward the space vessel and began to walk, motioning for us to follow him. As I said earlier, the vessel seemed to be floating in the air with part of its huge body touching the ground. This became more obvious to me as I came closer to it. The entire body seemed to be made of a solid metal substance that seemed rather like a cross between stainless steel and a dark-colored pure gold. Its awe-inspiring image stood out starkly against the backdrop of the slope.
